Probe starts after Form One girl is reportedly beaten to death by family in Kilimani

Detectives based in Nairobi’s Kilimani have begun investigations after a 15-year-old Form One student was beaten to death by her family; mother, father and her elder brother.

The minor had run away from home, missing the school’s re-opening date, according to the police report.

“Coptic hospital management told detectives that on May 20 at around 2100 hours, the hospital received a 15-year-old patient, who had been a student at Kiteta Girls Secondary in Mbooni, Makueni County,” the police report said.

Frankline Ntwiga Marangu, the girl’s father, accompanied her to the hospital for the check-up.

“She was examined and discharged, and her father returned her to Jamhuri showground quarters,” the report explained.

According to detectives handling the case, the girl would be taken back to the same hospital on Friday night after collapsing at home after being beaten.

“She allegedly collapsed at home following a severe beating from her father, mother-Benedetta Mbeni Muthoka, who works as an administration assistant at ASK showground, and the girl’s elder brother Ntwiga Ian Marangu, who is a student at Technical University of Kenya,” the police report said.

The minor was pronounced dead on arrival at the same hospital on Friday night.

The clinical officer confirmed that her body was covered in bruises, indicating that she had been severely beaten.

Meanwhile, detectives from DCI Kilimani who visited the scene recovered one PPR pipe believed to have been used to beat up the deceased.

The pipe is being held as exhibit.

The three suspects have been placed in custody at Kilimani police station pending further investigation into the incident.

The body of the deceased is awaiting postmortem at Coptic hospital morgue.
