Senator James Orengo, MPs forced to flee as chaos rocks Siaya function

Chaos in Siaya as rowdy youths storm Orengo, Atandi meeting

A political gathering at Nyang’anga primary school grounds convened by Alego/Usonga MP Samuel Atandi and attended by Siaya Senator James Orengo ended in disarray after it was stormed and disrupted by rowdy youth.

According to eyewitnesses, the meeting had just begun, with Mr. Atandi and Orengo present, as well as Mombasa businessman Andiwo Mwai, when one of Mr. Atandi’s political opponents, Nicholas Kut Ochogo, allegedly arrived with a group of rowdy youths.

When Mr. Kut arrived in a loud and dramatic manner, youths allied with legislator Samuel Atandi attempted to block him before a fight erupted, forcing the leaders to flee for safety.

Orengo, Atandi, and Andiwo were forced to flee for their chopper amid insults from the goons who pelted them with stones, forcing the businessman to fire into the air to scare them away.

Attempts to reach Mr. Atandi or Mr. Kut for comment were futile.

As of the time of publication, none of them had answered or returned our calls, nor had they responded to text messages.

Police officers who refused to give more information to the press said the incident is still being investigated.
