Kenya Railways has announced new changes for travellers using the Madaraka Express, including full fare for children above three years.
Previously, three year-old children paid only half fare.
Luggage will now be restricted to two pieces of a total weight not exceeding 30 kilogrammes per passenger.
Passengers travelling with invalid or no tickets will fined full fare and an extra 30 per cent penalty.
In the news rules announced Friday, travellers will now be able to make bookings 60 days before date of travel, unlike before when one could only book 30 days in advance.
Further, those booking online will be able to choose their preferred seats.
Requests for refund shall be accepted 48 and 72 hours before the time of travel for individuals and groups respectively.
Those seeking refunds will be deducted 30 per cent of the ticket price. Refunds can be obtained via M-Pesa if that was the mode used to make payment.
Rescheduling will be possible between 48 to 72 hours before travel and will attract a fee of 10 per cent of the ticket price.
A ticket can now only be rescheduled once.
