Wanyama: How Tottenham frustrated me

Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama says Tottenham Hot Spurs frustrated his football career in his last year at the club to the extent that he started losing passion for the game.

Wanyama who now plays MLS side Montreal Impact under Arsenal legend Thiery Henry said the club blocked several interests from European teams by delaying to clear the transfer process something that left him with no option but to revive his love for the game in the Major League Soccer.

“It was sad the way they were treating me. I had given my all to the club. I loved the club and had a good relationship with the fans and the players so I wanted to leave the club to at least can enjoy football again,” Wanyama said in a wide-ranging interview with Madgoat TV on Monday evening.

“At some point I was losing the passion for the game, because one could train hard and expect to be part of the match day squad only not appear on the team sheet.  At that point I said no,” Said Wanyama .

Before joining the Thierry Henry led side in March the Stars captain had made 97 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions following his move from Southampton in June 2016 and scored seven goals.

“They started to delay a lot of things, even Celtic among many other teams wanted to sign me but the club was taking me on rounds until the deals collapse and the transfer windows close.l

I spoke to my agent and he told me the MLS transfer window was still open and there were teams that are interested in my services.  I can go there and at least get my passion for the game back on track and you never know one day I might move somewhere else,” added the midfielder.

“Atlanta United, Montreal were some of the teams that were interested in my services but when Henry called and told me the vision he has for the team, where I can fit, and the value he believed I can add to his team I said yes.”
