Abreu retires after 26-year career

Sebastian Abreu has called time on a remarkable career that saw him play for a world-record 31 clubs.

The 44-year-old former Uruguay international made the announcement after joining Uruguayan side Sud America in March.

“The curtain comes down after 26 years,” Abreu said. “I decided with conviction obviously, understanding that it is the right moment, being active, playing in the first division. I think that is the way, the team is well, it is the right time.”
